Please support House Bill 1448

Ranked Choice Voting (RCV), is a voting method that allows voters to rank their choices in order of their preference, rather than selecting only one option. This allows us to vote our conscience and elect leaders who truly represent our communities. Although many places in our state could soon adopt RCV, there are no statewide standards to ensure that it will be implemented right. The Washington VOICES Act will make sure that all communities that choose Ranked-Choice Voting can maintain the same high-quality, accessible voting experience that we are used to in Washington.

Dear members of the House State Government and Tribal Relations committee,

I am writing to ask you to support House Bill 1448, which would set standards to ensure that ranked-choice voting will be implemented right.

Cities and counties in Washington are already allowed to switch to ranked-choice voting (RCV) under our state voting rights act. Communities are getting excited to vote without worrying about vote splitting, bring the focus back to the candidates, and elect leaders who have truly earned the support of the majority.

However, there are no statewide standards to ensure that ranked-choice voting will be implemented right. We need these standards to make the switch easy for our elections officials, ensure voting experiences will be the same from county to county, and provide education for voters with language barriers, disabilities, or limited voting experience.

The Washington VOICES Act will make sure that all communities that choose ranked-choice voting can maintain the same high-quality, accessible voting experience that we are all used to in Washington.
